Andy and Shelby SilvernailBucksport School System alumni Shelby and Andrew Silvernail today pledged $250,000 to support the schools’ initiatives to become a leader in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).
“Growing up in Maine, the dedicated educators of the Bucksport Schools were instrumental in laying the foundation for our lives. They nurtured us, saw potential in us and ultimately helped put us on a path for success,” Andy Silvernail said. “So much work today is centered around STEM subjects and we want to help Bucksport students have the same opportunities to achieve their full potential as we did.”

The Silvernails’ donation will fund hiring a new math coach who will serve the entire school system, with a special focus on helping young students build the core math skills needed to advance. The donation will also fund equipment for the industrial arts, trade education, and robotics team. This equipment includes a milling machine, a CNC router (a computerized cutting machine used in modern manufacturing) and a CNC plasma cutting table.

As graduates of Bucksport High School (Shelby ’91, Andy ’89), the Silvernails maintain roots in the community, where they have a home, family, and life-long friends.

A graduate of the University of New England and Boston University, Shelby has dedicated her passion and energy to healthcare, building a family and bettering the community. Andy, a graduate of Dartmouth College and Harvard Business School, serves as Chairman and CEO of IDEX Corporation (NYSE: IEX) in Lake Forest, Illinois. IDEX is a global, diversified manufacturing company that has undoubtedly touched your life in some way.
